European Theater
- 1939 - Germany invades Poland and causes the start of World War II. Britain and France immediately declare war on Germany. Germany has the better army and air power and forces Poland to surrender in one month. (September 1, 1939) 1940 - Germany invades France and eventually France surrenders. Germany now controls the French coastline which is important later on in the war.
- 1940 - Battle of the Atlantic. Germany uses submarines to destroy supply ships going to Britain for three years. They were trying to starve the Britains. 1940 - Battle of Britain. Germany uses air attacks to bomb Britain for months but they fail to hit enough major targets. A new device called "radar" helped Britain shoot down German planes and finally Germany gives up.
- 1941 - Germany invades Russia with 3,000,000 troops. The fighting continues for more than a year and Russia, even with help from Britain, looks like they will surely lose.
- 1943 - Battle of Stalingrad. Russia finally forces the German army to retreat which ends the war in Russia.
- 1943 - Britain and the United States start bombing Germany. Britain bombs during the night and the United States bombs during the day. Italy is invaded and their leader, Mussolini, is captured.
- 1944 - German officers try to kill Hitler and end the war. Paris is liberated or taken back from the Germans.
- 1944 - Battle of the Bulge. The last major German attack against the Allies. They tried to make a big bulge in the lines where all the Allied soldiers were but they failed
- 1945 - Germany surrenders in Berlin. Hitler commits suicide before he is captured by the Allies.
