One day, one of Artemis' hunter maidens, Callisto, caught the eye of Zeus.

maiden and that she should go and never come back. Since Artemis hated
all men, she got very mad when she found out that Callisto liked Zeus better
than her, Callisto ran away from Artemis, but Artemis told Zeus' wife,
Hera, that one of her maidens liked her husband. Hera got furious. By the
time Artemis told Hera about Callisto, Callisto was at the gates of the
gods, calling to Zeus for help. Zeus heard her cry and turned her
into a bear. However, Zeus did not do this in time and Hera so Callisto

on her hunting grounds. Artemis, being a huntress, ran into the woods of
the hunting grounds to find this bear Hera had spoke about. Callisto,
the bear, was running as fast as her hind legs could carry her. She
was running to to the gates of heaven. When she finally got there,
she tried to get in but Hera had locked them. She cried out as loud as
she could and Zeus heard her. At the same moment, Artemis reached Callisto
and was ready to shoot.Zeus asked her if she really thought she could
get rid of her that way. Quickly, Zeus sent Callisto into the sky
and that is where she stays now. During her time up in the sky, she had
a bear-cub son and named him Arcas. They stand together, mother and
child. They are not known as Callisto and her child ,Arcas, but as the
