Uniforms; The New York Knickerbockers were the first team to wear uniforms. They wore long dark-blue pants, webbed belts, white shirts, and straw hats.
In 1868 the Cincinnati Red Stockings introdced short pants gathered just below the knee called knickers. The other taem laughed at them but soon the knee lenth pants were worn by all teams.
The first uniforms were baggy, and now they are tight fitting. Willie Mays was the first player to wear the tight fitting pants in the 1960s.
The first uniforms had no bright colors they were either white or gray. In 1962, the Kansas City Athletics wore green and gold uniforms. Other players made fun of the them, but by the 1970s most of the teams were wearing bright colors. Baseball uniforms have changed through the years to try to match the fashions of the time.
