Woodrow Wilson was elected the 28th president as a Republican in 1912 and re-elected to a second term in 1916. He was the second president to receive a Nobel Peace prize, but also lead the United States into World War I in 1917. During his presidency the 19th Amendment giving women the right to vote was passed. Late in his second term Wilson was seriously impaired by a stroke.
