Warren Harding became the 29th president in 1920. This Republican was the first president to ride to his inaugeration in an automobile and the first to visit Alaska. His presidency was marked by serious corruption in government, known as the Teapot Dome scandal. He died of pneumonia in San Francisco, California in August 1923.
