John Quincy Adams

In the election 1824 no candidate had the majority of votes, so the election was submitted to the House of Representatives. They chose John Quincy Adams as the 6th president. During his presidency Adams signed the Tariff of Abominations. After his term ended, he was elected to the House of Representatives and served for17 years. He also laid the cornerstone of the first observatory on Mount Adams. He was the first Congressman to voice his opinion about freeing slaves.
