When James K. Polk came into office he had four goals. Two of them were the acquisition of California from Mexico and the settlement of the Oregon bounder y dispute with Great Britain. He hated it when time was unprofitably spent. Polk achieved all his goals in one term. But he worked so hard that within four months of leaving office he died.
