An emu can live up to 6 years.  The male can almost grow as tall as an ostrich, but a female can grow taller.  Their strong legs are used to kick other animals and and they don't have wings.  Other than ostriches being taller, emus are alot like them.   So they can survive, emus live in terrians with lots of rain.  Emus will never go near woodlands and rainforests.  A well fed emu will weigh about 45kg and the average weight for an emus egg is 700g to 900g.  The emus two main relatives are the ostrich and the cassowary.

The emu is the second largest bird in the world and the second tallest bird in the world.    It has strong legs and huge feet which have three claws each.  The emu can get speeds higher than 48kph when they run.  The male emu's "sound" is a low, growling grunt.  But the female's sounds like thudding drumming, and the chicks sound like whistling peeps.
The emu can eat 3,000 caterpillars a day! WOW!!!  The emu's diet consists of grass, berries, fruits, and various insects.   Emus have been known to swallow marbles, coins, and even nails.      The male has long, dark brown feathers, and his wings are hidden underneath the feathers.

The emus mate when they are 18 months old.  The female lays 5-20 eggs.  The male protects the nest from foxes, feral cats, and dingoes while it is minding the eggs.     During the eight weeks the male emu sits on the eggs, he will lose 5 to 10 kgs.  The male will chase the female away if she gets to close to the eggs because the females often will kill the chicks.  The nest may be 10 cm long  and 1 to 2 meters wide. It is usually made by the male emu from twigs, bark, and mud and it is made close to a body of water .
