The main architect was Henry Hobson Richardson. Henry Hobson Richardson was a well respected architect in Chicago .

The Marshall Field Store started construction in 1882 and wasn't finished until 1907. It was built in four stages.

The Marshall Field Store is famous for both of the clocks that stick out onto the street and for its Christmas decorations. There is a famous saying: "Meet me under the clock," which almost all Chicagoans know.

The Marshall Field Store has Christmas decorations in their display windows each December. They have a new theme every year; 1999's was How the Grinch Stole Christmas.
