William Holabird and Martin Roche were partners in the firm Holabird and Roche. The partnership began in 1881 and lasted until 1927, when Roche died. Holabird then began working with John Root.

Their first success came from the Tacoma Building, a twelve story skyscraper. They also designed the Old Colony Building and the Marquette Building in Chicago. Also, this outstanding firm designed the Chicago Board of Trade and Soldier Field.
