Nefertiti was famous for her
beauty and for the fact that she was the mother-in-law of Tutenkhamen.
She was the wife of a pharoah called Amenhotep IV. Amenhotep IV
and Nefertiti had six daughters. Their eldest daughter, Meritaten,
married a man called Smenkhkare. Their second daughter, Meketaten,
died in infancy. The third daughter, Ankhesenamen, was the wife
of Tutankhamen. Amenhotep IV and his eldest son-in-law, Smenkhkare,
died at about the same time. Since women were not allowed to rule,
Tutenkhamen was next in line and became pharoah. His reign, however,
was short. Nefertiti died shortly after that.
