Hieroglyphics
Egyptians first writing was made out of rows
of pictures. These pictures are called hieroglyphics. Each picture
stands for a sound or word. Some hieroglyphics are really complicated
and take a long time to draw. The word paper comes from papyrus,
a tall reed grown by the Nile River. Egyptians used the papyrus
to make paper for written communication.
