Sphinx

Is this the Pharoah or the Pharoah's cat? It's hard to tell. This is the famous Sphinx which guards the pyramids of the city of Giza, in northern Egypt. The Sphinx is a giant statue that is half god, half lion, and half human. It was carved out of the bed of limestone where it sits. Some people claim that the Sphinx was not built by Ancient Egyptians but other, older civilizations. Yet others say there are no older civilizations. It is believed that the Sphinx was built around 2600 B.C. Other geologists have claimed to have found evidence to say the Sphinx could have been built as far back as 5000 B.C. Still others say that the Sphinx is a ruins and this creates the mystery and magic as it sits and guards the pyramids of Giza.
