All About Basketball

We are going to tell you quite a bit about basketball you didn't know. Basketball was invented in the United States in 1891. A regulation basketball court measures 94 ft. and 50 ft. wide. High school games are divided into 16 minute halves. A men's basketball weighs 20 to 22 ounces. James Naismith invented basketball in 1891. He first decided to use a soccer ball because it was large enough to catch easily. They first used peach baskets to play the game. In 1893 metal hoops with net bags were replaced with the wooden hoops. The first professional basketball league was formed in 1898. During the 1920's and the 1930's two all black professional teams dominated their competition. 1976 was the first year the women's basketball went to the Olympics.
