Teamwork
When working in a cooperative group it is important to remember that you are only one person that is a part of your group.  You must all work together to be successful.  It might be helpful to take turns as leader, scribe, quarter master (takes care of supplies) speaker/summarizer, etc.

Here are a few exercises to help you grow as a team.

Task 1 Task 2 Task 3

Task 1
Think of many different ways to get a ping-pong ball out of a deep lobster hole!

There's two angry lobsters in a hole.  The diameter of the hole is slightly larger than the ping-pong ball, and its depth is about two feet deep.  In what ways might you get the pig-pong ball out of the hole without getting pinched by the lobsters massive pinchers.

*Think about it for several minutes; brainstorm!
*What is your step by step plan.  Include the materials.
*SCAMPER your ideas.
*Present your solution.

Task 2
Devise a method of putting pizzas made of cardboard from one location to another that would be delivered to a customer.  How can you make as many pizzas as possible in the shortest amount of time?

You will have 3 minutes to talk with your team members (5 members per team) and 4 minutes to complete your problem.

Pizzas must begin at the dough station and travel to the pepperoni station. Here pepperonis (poker chips) will be added to the pizza.  They are then given to the chef who must pass them through the oven.  From there they go to the delivery person to take to the customer.  BUT the  delivery person may be the only member to move around the kitchen.

Please look at the diagram below:

*Take 3 minutes to discuss how to solve the problem; brainstorm!
*SCAMPER your ideas.
*Present your solution.

You can award points for creativity, teamwork, and task completion.

Task 3
This is a non-linguistic activity.  Your problem will be to devise a method of knocking over cans to score points.  Stack the cans in 4 different pyramid designs as shown below. Some cans have positive numbers and some have negative values.  The object is to accumulate the most points.  Cans cannot be touched by team members and must be acquired by using 1 rubber band, 1 rubber ball, 1 large paper clip, 1 yardstick, and 3 mailing labels.  When time begins: team members must be 5 feet from the pyramid cans and may not get any closer to the cans with their bodies.  They must use the supplies available to knock over the cans.

You will have 3 minutes to talk with your team members (5 members per team) and 5 minutes to complete your nonverbal problem.

*Take 3 minutes to discuss how to solve the problem; brainstorm!
*SCAMPER your ideas.
*Present your solution.
