style and voice so that it truly fits the
purpose of your writing
and your audience.
- Use strong, colorful, and specific nouns and verbs
-Choose words that create the “right” feeling for your piece
-Use a thesaurus. Pick a
word that best fits the meaning,
feeling, and sound
of your assignment.
-Avoid frequently used adjective- choose effective modifiers.
-Use figurative language
to make your writing clear, concise,
and creative. Examples
include: simile, metaphor, and
personification.
REWRITE IF:
- your writing is too general,
too lifeless
- you're writing for the
wrong reason
- your first draft is boring
- you use repeated words
to start your sentences
