One very hot afternoon at Lingle Middle School all the children were busy playing in the school yard. All of a sudden they heard a cry for HELP! Imagene, one of the more curious children, decided to look around for himself . He squeezed between some bushes and much to his surprise he saw... a UFO with a long silver ramp extending from it's center. Imagene could not believe his eyes! This seemed too unreal to be true. However, Imagene was not frightened; just curious. Down from the ramp came three space aliens. One had very large ears, another had very big eyes, and a third had big hands with a large body. " My goodness," Imagene thought, " Who are these creatures? I wonder if they are nice, and I wonder what they want?" He remained very silent and listened carefully to what they were saying to each other until... the creature with the large eyes spotted him! " Please come and join us," he said. " We are on a very important mission from our planet, Learning. We could use some of your help. My name is La Visual and these are my friends ... Hearingaiddy, and B.K. Imagene walked toward them slowly. " We were sent to Earth to find out how the children here learn new and difficult things so quickly. The children here on Earth appear to be so smart. We would like the children on our planet to be thought of the same way! Do you think you can help us?" Imagene thought for a moment. "Hmmm... I guess the only way to help you find what you are looking for is to go into Lingle and watch them work. Let's go to my classroom and see if we can discover the answer to your question. " So all three of them set out toward the school yard to find the kids. When they found Imagene's classroom they all spread out into the different stations that were set up in the room. Hearingaiddy went to the section where the children were listening to tape recorders. They were listening to the story, "The Tois Amis" and then replying to questions about it. LaVisual went to the station where the kids were playing a matching game that had to do with words and pictures. LaVisual was sure he new the answer to how kids learn new and difficult things. B.K. went to the station where the kids were building structures out of building blocks. B.K. was having so much fun when it occurred to her that she to had found the answer to their question!
The school bell announced school was out. Hearingaiddy, LaVisual, and B.K all came skipping out toward Imagene. All three of them looked like they were about to burst with knowledge! " We know, we know how the kids learn new and difficult things we know!" Imagene was knocked to the ground by the three racing minds. "How?", Imagine finally asked.
Hearingaiddy said, " The children learn by listening to the things they need to learn."
"Children learn new and difficult things by feeling and holding the things they need to learn!", B.K. cried!
LaVisual exclaimed, "The children I met learned difficult and new things by seeing what they have to learn!"
After all the different creatures answered, Imagene exclaimed! "I've got it! We are all right! Different children learn by doing different things! Some learn best by seeing, others learn best by listening, and some learn best by touching and feeling. Therefore we figured out that every child has their own Learning Style!
The three creatures were pleased on how Imagene
helped them to find the answer to their question. Then they thanked him
and went
back to their planet in their space craft.
