We believe that God has created each and every one of us in His Own image and likeness. One of the many gifts that He has given to us is intelligence. We are to use it to explore, discover, delight in and also appreciate the many gifts and marvels of His creation. We have been given memory as well as the desire to preserve and pass on important things and and events of our lives. We would like to respectfully explore such a memory that the Lenape People remarkably preserved in their Walum Olum. This document tells of the genesis (the Creation) or beginnings of Lenape People, the Flood as well as their odyssey of many, many generations. We don't wish to disparage the religious beliefs of our fellow Native American brothers and sisters, we just want to inform and educate young minds about this treasured document.
There are two differing views of the geographic origins of the Lenape People as viewed in the Walam Olum. Daniel Brinton would place their beginnings in the Labrador area of North America. Others seem to favor the Northern China area. We hope that our research can pique the interest of other young people to further explore this facinating topic so that in the future what we have begun may be more fully answered by them .
