The Chinese were the first makers of gunpowder. One kind of rocket

is a fire arrow. Another early rocket was a canon that the Chinese
used to fight off Mongol invaders. The kind of canons the Chinese
used were made of gunpowder and when it hit something it exploded.
People started using rockets in the 1400šs. People like the British
used rockets for battles with other countries. For example the
British attacked Copenhagen and the Danes were showered by
rockets. Ever since people have been using rockets for wars and
battles. Technology in rockets has advanced so much that we are now
building space stations.

The first rocket flight was in 1932. It took many years of

experimentation to make a successful rocket. The goal of rocketry is
developing technology and getting to the moon. Allan Shepard was the
first man in space. The First man to orbit the earth was John Glenn.
In 1958 NASA was established. Americašs first space station was
made by team Marshall called Skylab. President Kennedy said that
America was going to be the first country to land a man on the moon
in 1961, and we were. So far we have been very successful.
