Back in 700 B.C.E., and probably before, sea myths were
created. People back then believed stories from the Torah
and books of Christianity were very true. Sailors told sea
myths like the stories of Poseidon or the Sea Serpent
because they couldn't describe what they saw in any other
way. Indians and sailors shared many of the same myths.
Some of the people back in 17th century believed that the
oceans near the equator boiled, and that a sailoršs blood
would boil also. They thought a man's skin would turn black
from the heat of the sun. As a result, explorers were
terrified and refused to sail around the tip of Africa. Once
Bartholomew Diaz sailed around the tip of Africa, many
others followed, and exploration of the world by sea was
beginning.
