Bartholomew
Roberts

Bartholomew Roberts was a very good pirate. He changed his
name to Black Barty. He was captain of many ships. He attacked and
burned many other ships from the coast of West Africa, Brazil, he
Caribbean and Newfoundland. He defeated more than 400 ships.
Only Sir Henry Morgan, the buccaneer, defeated as many ships as
Black Barty. Black Barty became a pirate when he was 37, that was
old in those days, but he was good at being a pirate and he soon
became captain. He made his own flag with a picture of himself with
a sword, and two skulls and the letters ABH and AMH. The letter
stood for a Barbarian and a Martian head. Barty was finally taken by
a British warship off the coast of New Guinea. He died on February
10, 1722.
