Hi! It's me again, Mike Mammal, your most trusted mammal tour guide. (I hope.) Lets do Bengal tigers now. They are my favorite animals, so if you ignore me... well let's just say I will get even. All right, that was not a threat, just a very good reason for you not to ignore me. So don't. Okay? Right, you better start listening now!
Habitat
Bengal tigers live in the rain forests of South Eastern Asia. Bengal tigers are found across India. They also have scattered populations in Nepal, Bhutan, and Burma. They mostly live in in the cold forests of the Himalayas and in the warm swamps of the Sundarbuns region, which is found in northeastern India and Bangladesh.
Physical Appearance
Each Bengal tiger has a different pattern of black stripes on an orange or white coat. They have long canine teeth, and the molars behind them act like scissors tearing up strips of flesh and meat.
Eating Habits
Bengal tigers usually eat Sambar deer, Chital deer, water buffaloes, wild pigs, and monkeys. They can kill prey large enough for several meals. They usually begin eating at the hindquarters of their prey, but they will eventually eat every part, including the hair and skin, which helps with digestion. They can eat up to 66 pounds of meat at one time. Like most other big cats, they will even eat meat that has begun to rot.
Behavior
Bengal tigers need space to hunt and therefore they are social at a distance. They mark their territory by shredding the barks of trees and spraying it with strong smelling urine.
Interesting Facts
Bengal tigers are the most water-loving of all the big cats. They will even chase their prey into the water. Bengal tigers often walk backward into the water to keep an eye on their surroundings. The white Bengal tigers are the result of a genetic mutation.
