Topaz
ColorFrom yellow to light brown to pinkish red.
InformationTopaz is a hard and transparent gem. Topaz is a compound of aluminum, silica, and flourite. Topaz has a hardness of 8 on the Moh's Scale. Most topazes are white or blue. These are often large, including thousands of carats. This means that the only thing that makes topaz more valuable is the quality. Topaz mainly is irradiated (exposed to radiation) to improve the gem's color. Blue topaz is sometimes sold as aquamarine, and brown quartz as topaz. Topaz is much harder and more brilliant than the quartz.
