The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is a great place to learn
about the origins of our solar system. It is located in an area called University Circle
which includes the Cleveland Museum of Art, the Cleveland Botanical Gardens, the Western
Reserve Historical Society, and Case Western Reserve University.
Within the last few years, the Museum opened an area called
Planet e. This area includes many interactive exhibits that provide information about the
beginning of the Universe. There is a computer display that allows you to find out more
about the nine planets. The planetarium has scheduled shows. The Alan Abele Meteorite
Collection, one of the finest private collections in the country, is on long-term loan to
the Museum. A portion of the collection is on display. One of the best items to see is a
real Moon rock that was collected by Alan Bean when he was a member of the Apollo 12
mission. This rock was collected from the Ocean of Storms area of the Moon on November 20,
1969. It weighs 253 grams and is 228 million years old. Scientists suspect it is a
meteorite.
The Cleveland Museum of Natural History is a fun place to visit
and learn about space.
