Air Rifle

The air rifle is silent unlike a black powder rifle. And you never had to "keep your powder dry." The butt of the rifle is actually a metal canister designed with a needle valve to hold compressed air. The air was stored under a lot of pressure--between 700 and 900 per sqaure inch!

Although it was used a lot in hunting it was also used to impress the Native Americans. It impressed the Native Americans because they had never seen a rifle before!
