Lewis and Clark expedition

Sergeant Nathaniel Pryor

Nathaniel Pryor was born 1772 in Virginia. He married a wife in 1798. Pryor was lucky because the captains usually only took married men on the trip. He was made a permanent member on October 20, 1803.

Pryor was the cousin of Charles Floyd, who would be the only person to die on the expedition.

After the expedition Pryor went to live and trade with the Osage Indians, then he married one of the tribe members and began a family.

Upon returning to New Hampshire, he married again. Later in his life he moved to Missouri on the 320 acres of land that he was given for being in the Corps.

Pryor died on June 10, 1831.
