Sun

The Sun is big and round you see,
If it were not there,
we would not be.
Power and heat come from this star,
And the temperature there goes up VERY far!!!

Are you ready to get really hot and explore the sun? You will need fireproof equiptment, because the temperature of the sun's surface is 5500ºC (9932ºF)! The sun is a medium-sized star; it is about 1,400,000 km (870,000 miles) in diameter. The mass of this star is 333,000 times Earth's. Now that's pretty big!

We would not be able to breathe here on the Sun because its atmosphere is mostly made of helium and hydrogen. The sun is constantly giving off heat and energy.

There are dark spots that on parts of the Sun. These are colder than other places on the Sun, but not ANYWHERE close to cold!!! On these spots are prominences, which are streams of gas.

The rotation of the sun takes 25 Earth days! That's 600 hours! Now you know some really cool facts about the sun, our source of light, heat, and energy.

Now let's move onto Mercury, the first planet in our Solar System
