Click a heavenly body to go there! Hello and welcome to the 4th planet in our Solar System: MARS!!! Mars is most known as the red planet because its surface contains a red material called iron oxide. That is part of the reason why Mars has its name. Mars is also the name of the Roman god of war. War was a place with blood, and blood is red. Therefore, since the planet Mars is red, it got the name Mars. In 1996, the Mars Pathfinder went to Mars. This voyage helped us learn a lot about Mars, and it finally disproved the theory that there were Martians living on Mars. But the pathfinder did find the remains of what might have been some sort of bacteria. Mars has a rocky surface that contains iron oxide, like we said before. There are dead volcanoes, deep canyons, and even some canals that probably were made by water. There have been many searches for life on Mars, but so far, none have been successful. Now that you've learned about Mars, let's move on and explore the ASTEROID BELT! |
