We went on a field trip to the Smart Road Beam Bridges. Engineer David Clarke gave us the tour of the bridges. He showed us three bridges. The first bridge we didn't notice crossing because the bridge was so small. The second bridge went over a railroad. We went under that bridge when a train carrying coal went past us making a lot of noise. The third bridge is still under costruction. It is a cantilever bridge. The way it is built is in severalsections instead of just one section. Virginia Tech plans on doing experiments on the Smart Bridge. Beside one bridge there are snow and rain makers to test the road for durability. The Water Tower is used to store water for the snow and rain maker. How it Works The Water Tower is connected to several pipes that go underground to the snow and rain maker with a computer conection, that tells the Water Tower when the snow and rain maker is needed.
The field trip ended when our parents came to pick us up.
