The Brooklyn Bridge stands 135 feet above water in New York City. The towers were built in 1875. The temporary footbridge between towers was built in 1877. When the bridge opened the toll was 1 cent until the second day.

John A. Roebling was born June 12,1806. He was born in Muelhaulsen, Prussia. John Roebling (the creator) never got to see the finished piece because he died. Instead his son finished it, but even then his son barely escaped death and had to watch construction from his window. He died at the Brooklyn Bridge in 1869 .

You know how if you turn over a cup and put it in water it will still have air in it? Well, that's what they did so people could go in the caissons (cups) and dig under water, but 22 people died because of the air pressure. This is a very dangerous job.
