GREG
LeMOND
|
|
Greg LeMond is a very fast biker. He
has become champion in races all over the
world.
Greg won the Tour De France in 1986,
1989, and 1990. The Tour de France is a race in France
which lasts about 22 days and has 20 different
stages.
He was the first American to win the
famous race. In 1984, he finished third, which was the
best a non-European had done in the race. In 1986, after
a race of over 2000 miles, LeMond emerged victorious as
the first American ever in the history of the Tour De
France to win.
LeMond grew up in Nevada and rode
everywhere he went. He was already famous in his home
town as being a biker when he started his professional
bicycle racing career. He became a star almost
instantaneously.
Greg LeMond is a very tough guy. He
was shot by his brother in a hunting accident and then
came back to win the Tour De France in 1989. That race
was very close. Greg won by only 8 seconds.
He retired in 1994 when he was
diagnosed with a serious muscle disease. People all over
the world will remember Greg LeMond for a very, very long
time.
