A helmet is the most important
part of bicycle safety. Always wear a helmet when riding
a bicycle. The helmet should cover the forehead, but not
cover the eyes. If you fall off your bike without a
helmet, you're taking a risk of getting brain or head
injury. To reduce the injury, wear a helmet. The helmet
is so important that in some communities you have to wear
one because it is a law.
A helmet is made from plastic and
foam. The foam absorbs the force of impact if you have an
accident. The plastic is for more protection. The holes
at the top of your helmet are to keep your head cool.
Your straps and buckles keep your helmet in place and not
loose. If your helmet is loose, it could slip down and
cover your eyes, and you could get in a serious accident.
The padding in your helmet is to fill in the space
between your head and your helmet.
Before you buy a bike, make sure you
buy a helmet. Make sure the helmet fits. If you can move
your helmet easily with your hand, then you either need
more padding or a different helmet. If you're not with
your child make sure you buy a helmet he would wear. And
make sure you buy a helmet for yourself, too.

you're not convinced you need to wear a helmet, try this

helmet experiment.
