Pedaling Pros
DOUG BRUSSMr. Doug Bruss was our gym teacher for 37 years and was the first and only gym teacher since Sherwood School opened in 1961 until he retired.
Sherwood School gave a bike to Mr. Bruss in 1996 when he retired. We gave him a road bike which he uses for a lot of tours. He's taken two fairly long tours so far with his bike, and he has a long tour coming up. In the summer of 2000, he's flying to Washington state and then riding from Washington to Boston, Massachusetts, in 63 days and 4000 miles.
He always rides from Deerfield, IL to Winnetka, IL and back. He also rides from Deerfield to a place in Wisconsin which is 120 miles away. When he rides he always wears colorful clothes. He always obeys traffic signs and he always checks his bike to see if it works.
