The 10th king of the 18th dynasty was Ankhena- ton. He was very controversial, because of his break with their traditional religion. Ankhenaton was raised with the traditional religion by his parents Amenotep III and Queen Tiy. Ankhenaton, however, preferred to worship Aten, the sun god. He changed his name from Amenhotep IV. He renamed his queen Nefertiti. He also had all Amon statues destroyed. After 18 years of ruling he died. His sucessor said his own reign began after Amenhotep III, which wiped Ankhenaton's rule from existance.
