Here is an example of a Satellite that is monitoring Air Pollution; it is called Terra.  Terra is a satellite that is made to stay in orbit for a period of 5 years.  Mopitt is the instrument on Terra that studies the chemicals our atmosphere is made of.  The Mopitt scientists team goal is to understand the changes of our Environment(Biosphere) to help out life in the Biosphere including humanity.
