          In the next few pages you will be doing games on diabetes, so first you need to learn a little bit about diabetes. First, diabetes is a disease, That is when a person's pancreas (a organ in your body behind your stomach that makes insulin, and the insulin eats up the fats, and sugars) doesn't work and the person has to take shots that have man made insulin. (Insulin is used for reducing sugar.) The diabetics can't eat too much sugar or carbohydrates. They also have to count their carbohydrates. Depending on how many carbohydrates you have makes a difference on how many units of insulin you get.  15 grams of carbohydrates = 1 unit of insulin. There are two types of insulin. One of them is a short type and it starts working right when you take the shot and only lasts for a short time. There are two types of shot acting insulin.  One is regular, the other is humalog.. The humalog is a little bit better than the regular. The other type is a long acting and it starts after the short acting ends. Like the short acting there is two types of long acting Lente and NPH.
