Warren Spahn

jjjjjWarren Spahn was born in 1921 in Buffalo, New York. He began playing for the Boston Braves in 1942 as a left handed pitcher. From 1949 - 1952, Spahn led the National League in strikeouts. He held many National League records as a left handed pitcher. Spahn holds the Major League record for most games won by a left handed pitcher (363). He started more double plays than any other Major League pitcher (82), and led all National League pitchers with a record of 35 homeruns. Up until 1960, Spahn had won 267 games without pitching a no-hitter. In 1957, the Braves won the penant led by Spahn and he went on to win the Cy Young award that same year. Stan Musial once said, "I don't think Spahn will ever get into the Hall of Fame. He'll never stop pitching." He finally retired from baseball in 1965 after pitching in a Mexican league and was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1973.
