Stan Musial

jjjjjStan Musial was born in Donora, PA in 1920. Stan was selected by the Sporting News as the Major League Player of the Year in 1946 and 1951. Sports Illustrated named him its Sportsman of the Year in 1957 and the Sporting News honored him as Spokesman of the Decade for the years between 1946-1956. Stan played all of his 22 years of professional baseball with the St. Louis Cardinals. In 1954, Stan Musial became the first player ever to hit 5 homeruns in a double header. He retired in 1963. He finished his career with 3,026 games played, went to bat 10,972 times, and scored 949 runs. He won 7 National batting titles and was named Most Valuable Player in 1943, 1946, and 1948. Stan was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1969. A statue of Stan Musial was dedicated at Busch Stadium in 1968.
