Mickey Mantle

jjjjjOn October 20, 1931, in Oklahoma, Mickey Mantle was born. Named after Mickey Cochrane, his father's favorite player, Mickey Mantle learned how to switch hit at the early age of five. (A switch hitter is someone who can bat both left and right.) He was a powerful right fielder before his 20th birthday and became the most powerful switch hitter in baseball history. He hit 536 homeruns in the regular season and set a World Series record with 18 more. Mickey Mantle was the league's Most Valuable Player three times in his career. He played for a total of 19 years for the New York Yankees. He was elected into the Hall of Fame in 1974.
