jjjjjWalter Perry Johnson
was born on November 6, 1887 in Humbolt, Kansas. Walter
started to play baseball when he was 14 for oil companies.
Everybody thought Walter's throw was in a class by itself,
and no one could beat it. Walter played for 21 years with
the Washington Senators. Walter won 416 games in his 21 year
career. Walter won over 20 games each season for 10 seasons.
Johnson was nicknamed "The Big Train" because his fastball
was compared to the speed of a roaring locomotive. The Big
Train held the record for most strikeouts in a career for 62
years. In 1936, he was elected into the Hall of Fame. The
Big Train died in 1946.
