Lefty Grove

jjjjjRobert Moses (Lefty) Grove was born on March 6, 1900 in Maryland. He started playing in 1925 and he played for 17 years. He began his career with the Phillies, and then went to Boston. In 1927, Grove won 24 games, losing only eight. In 1931, Grove would have won his seventeenth straight victory, but Al Simmons wasn't at the game. Al Simmons was a regular starter for the Phillies. The guy who was in for Simmons miss judged a fly ball, and the Phillies ended up losing the game 1-0. In 1933, Grove was sold to Boston for $125,00. In 1947, Lefty Grove was elected into the Hall of Fame. Lefty was a spectacular pitcher and lead the American League in ERA 9 times. Robert Moses Grove died on May 23, 1975 in Ohio.
