Ken Griffey, Jr.

jjjjjKen Griffey, Jr. was born on November 21, 1969 in Donora, PA. Griffey plays center field and is a designated hitter. Griffey made the Seattle Mariners team in 1989 when he was only 19 years old. On August 25 of his rookie season, he broke a finger but still led all major league rookies with 13 homers and 45 RBI. In 1991 he set new standards for the Seattle Mariners. His batting average was .327. In 1992, he finished third in the AL in extra-base hits (70). Also in 1992, he led the AL with a record three grand slams as well as being named MVP of the All Star game. Griffey became the seventh-youngest player in major league history to reach the 200 HR mark. After the 1999 season, Griffey signed a deal to play with the Cincinatti Reds. He is regarded as one of the best homerun hitters in the Major Leagues.
