jjjjjTyrus Raymond Cobb was born on December 18, 1886 in Narrows, Georgia. When he was a kid, his mother killed his father. His major league debut was on August 30, 1905. In the beginning of his career, Cobb played for the Philadelphia Athletics (1925 - 1933). He finished his career with the Detroit Tigers (1934 to 1937). He played the outfield. Ty's nickname was "Georgia Peach". Ty retired in 1938. He finished his career with a .367 batting average over a 24 year period! He had 892 career stolen bases, plus 4,191 hits in his career. As Ty got older he got a dog named "Choddy". Choddy was a boxer. Cobb always loved dogs. Ty Cobb retired in 1928 and was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1936 - the first Hall of Fame ballot. Ty died in Georgia on July 17, 1961.
