jjjjjRoger Clemens was born
on August 4, 1962 in Dayton, Ohio. He turned down several
offers to play in the Major League in order to attend
college at the University of Texas. After the 1983 college
season, Roger was the first pick in the draft. He was taken
by the Boston Red Sox. In 1987, Roger became only the third
pitcher to win back-to-back Cy Young Awards. He picked up
his third Cy Young Award in 1991. Roger's nickname is
"Rocket". His most memorable accomplishment was in 1986,
when he struck out 20 batters, breaking the nine-inning
record held by three pitchers, including Roger's idol, Nolan
Ryan. He did it again, ten years later, in 1996 when he
struck out 20 Detroit Tigers. He is currently playing for
the New York Yankees.
