On the Move!

.

.

We use horses, sleds, wagons, a Conestoga wagon, boats, but we mostly walk. Our travel is very difficult and slow. People who live in our town don’t really go far except for government officials, merchants, and planters. I would recommend traveling by boat in lakes, rivers, and oceans. This is because the paths and roads are difficult to travel on and you can go faster in a boat.

If we need to travel a long distance we use a Conestoga Wagon. It is very big and is like a house on wheels. Sometimes we would also use the Conestoga Wagon to move crops that we've harvested, and to take them to market.

We use a large sled when it is snowing hard and nothing else can go through the deep snow. It is big enough to hold most of our family. It is cold to ride in, but it is better than walking! We use our horse to pull the sled.

I’ll tell you a little secret. If you have one horse and two people, one person can walk for awhile and the other person can ride the horse. Then the person riding the horse can tie the horse to a tree down the trail.  When the person walking arrives at the horse, they can ride it while the other walks. If you keep on repeating this, both people get to their destination without being tired.
