I like how we celebrate so many
holidays. My Grandpa says that the first holiday to be celebrated in
America was Thanksgiving. On Thanksgiving we set aside the day and give thanks.
Luckily in our town Christmas isn’t forbidden. In some places it is
because no one in that town believes in Christ. My lucky friend Brian gets
maybe a little book, some candy, or some money because his family is
rich. I give a "Christmas Piece" to my teacher; it is like a
greeting card. My dad says the tree is the most symbolic Christmas
symbol. On Christmas morning my father shoots off his gun and then
someone shoots their gun back in return. Then we go to church, which is
the most important part of Christmas.

"The First Skating Day" is always a special day fro
us. It’s the first day of the winter season that we have no
school!
Father says that Valentine's Day is celebrated because it is supposed
to brighten the cold winter months.
On April 1st we celebrate my favorite holiday of the year,
April Fools Day. It’s the only day we are allowed to play a trick on the
teacher. Last year we locked out our teacher from the schoolhouse.
When Easter comes along we just go to church, then go home and do our
chores, but my Dutch friend Stephen and his family decorate eggs. Also,
there is no Easter Bunny.
On Halloween, we wear scary costumes to frighten evil spirits, and we are offered sweets.
