Let me me
tell you about the different kinds of clothes we normally wear. My father
doesn’t wear long pants. His pants are called
breeches,
which come just below
the knees. We have buttons instead of zippers on our breeches. Under his
breeches are woolen stockings.
He wears his shirt very loose with some ruffles at his neck and
cuffs. He wears a waistcoat over his shirt. He will sometimes wear
a cloak over his waistcoat. At
home my dad wears a tri-corner hat instead of a wig. A tri-corner hat is
a hat with three corners. It doesn’t matter which shoe I put on which foot
because they’re all the same. My rich friend Brian has his clothes
made of silk brocade lace. My four year old brother will wear a loose
dress until he becomes five or six years old.
My
Mom’s clothes are very
beautiful but she says they are very
uncomfortable to wear. She wears a long dress, but my Aunt
Teresa wears a petticoat. My Mom only has
two sets of clothes, one set
for weekdays and one set for Sunday. She wears a corset around her
waist. It is laced around her
waist almost to the point were she can’t breath. Mrs. Morris’s ribs
were broken because her corset was so tight. My mom wears clogs
around her shoes so she doesn’t get them muddy. A pocket-hoop
farthingale makes my mom’s waist look thin and her stomach look flat.
To keep my mom’s hands warm while she traveled she wore a muff over
them, which was a cloth wrapped around her hands. Also, when we travel
my mom wears a cloak. It covers her hair and dress, also it keeps
her warm. When my sister gets to be five or six she wears the same thing as my mom.

Both my mom and dad wear wigs.
Wigs are a very important part of your clothing. They come in many
styles. Some of the wigs I see cost as much as a house!
Our clothes are made from wool. My
mom shears the sheep first. She uses shears, which are like scissors to
cut off the wool. Then my mom has to scour the wool, which is like
cleaning it. My Grandma is the one who cards the wool. Carding is
suppose to fluff the wool. The way you card is you take a small amount
of wool and put it between a paddle that has a bunch of little
hooks on
it then you pull one paddle across the other paddle. After this is done
we give it to our mom who spins it on our spinning wheel.
