Canyon View Elementary School
is located in a canyon in an area of San Diego called Rancho Penasquitos.
It's a one-story building with our mascot, the coyote,
painted on the front. We also have a mural of a tropical rainforest
jungle painted all along the outside school walls. The school is a
peach color with the doors and the roof a bluish- green. In our
computer room, we have 12 computers. Right next to the computer room
is the library with many, many books we can check out and return the next
week or renew them. In our Multi-Purpose Room, the school puts on plays,
greets guest speakers and holds many other events, including our Silent Auction
during the Coyote Round-Up at the end of the year to raise money for the
PTA. Each grade has its own special activities. In kindergarten there is the Mother's Day Tea. With their best cowboy clothes on, the kids in second grade put on a big square-dancing program. The girls dance with boys and the boys dance with girls, so everybody is a little shy but everyone has a good time! Oh, say can you see the third graders sing in the annual Patriotic Program. There the third graders sing all the patriotic songs wearing a t-shirt they've decorated with red, white and blue and waving small flags in their hands. In 4th grade everybody remembers the "Holidays Around the World" play at Christmas time and participates in the Gold Rush Day, where you actually pan for gold! (spray-painted rocks, that is!). Fifth graders get to go on a fantastic over-night field trip and be the crew on the Star of India, a 19th century schooner (sailing ship) docked at San Diego Bay. They also participate in the D.A.R.E. Program to learn how to say "no" to drugs and have a special graduation ceremony for that. Recess is one of the best things in our school. Canyon View has a very large playground. Our morning recess is about 15 minutes. On the lower field, we have a large field of grass and bars. We also have a 1/5 of a mile track around part of the field. On the lower field, there are also three base ball fields. On the asphalt, there are hand ball courts, four-corner boxes, four- square boxes, tether ball poles and a sand box. In the sand box area, we have a slide, swings and monkey bars. There are so many things to do at recess! Now, lunch is another one of the best things at school! We have a large cafeteria and very nice lunch ladies. They serve us many different things, for example cheeseburgers, tacos, nachos, "brunch for lunch" (patties and french toast), hot dogs, corn dogs and on every second Tuesday of the month, we have a Little Caeser's pizza day. At lunch, everyone gets 45 minutes to play (one bell is 15 minutes). The fifth graders get fifth bell but they get out at second bell, the fourth graders get fourth bell and they get out at first bell. The third graders just get 45 minutes, and same with the other grades. You can play anywhere at lunch and recess. The lower field is only closed if it is wet (from rain), and at lunch, if it is raining, we eat in the Multi-Purpose room. But it hardly ever rains in southern California! And it never snows! We have a great school!!!!
