The Desert Pupfish is a small fish that lives in the Sonoran Desert in Southern California. It lives in marshes, springs and streams and can stand temperatures up to 40 degrees. It is a silvery fish and can grow up to be 6-9 cm. It feeds on small fish in the ocean and it will also eat brown and green algae. In the winter they will bury themselves in the mud on the ocean floor. Their scientific name is C. macularius. They have become endangered because of their habitat destruction. Conservation programs have enabled their numbers to grow.
