Pilot Whales

Information on the pilot whale is very scarce.  The pilot whale's scientific name is Gllobicccephala macrorhynccus .  The pilot whale is also known as the Blackfish.  The whale has a “melon-shaped head” and  reaches to about 22 feet in length.  When these black and brown whales travel, they  travel   in pods of up to 50 animals.

It is believed that the pilot whale's favorite food is squid.  When there are squid runs at coastal points and at the Channel Islands, you can find large pods of pilot whales chomping down on their favorite meal.
